How to please your boss

The best way to please your boss is with a good attitude. Just as you should not bring your work home, you should not bring your personal life to work. You are there for one reason, to get the job done. It does not matter what is going on at home, what matters is doing your job and doing it right.

You must be on time. When you are late, you throw off the entire workplace. Unless you have a true emergency, be there when expected. When it comes to breaks and lunches, be timely here, too, especially if others are waiting to take their breaks and lunches and cannot leave until you get back.

Follow the dress code. If you have to wear a uniform, make sure it is clean. Do not wear clothes to work that you would wear for a night out on the town.

Do not stand around on company time, talking, drinking coffee and doing nothing. Do these things on a break.

Do not be the Official Gossiper. Nothing brings down the morale more than a rumor mill. Chances are, whatever your saying is not true anyway, so do not add to the rumors.

When you can, go above what is expected of you. Work extra hours when you are asked to. This will mean when you need time off, you will be more likely to get it.

If you are having trouble with some aspect of your work, do not wait too long to ask for help. You are not going to endear yourself to your boss, if you wait and they have five hours to fix your mistakes before a deadline. They will respect you more for asking for help in a timely manner.

This may seem strange but leave when your day is done. It is annoying having people standing around chatting when they should have left an hour ago. You are in the way, go home!

If your boss does something, which makes your life easier thank them. Being in charge is a thankless job a lot of the time and knowing you are appreciated is helpful to everyone, even the boss.

Ants in the Kitchen?

To get rid of sugar ants, mix 1 part of boric acid powder with 20 parts of sugar. Sprinkle this in areas where you notice the ants, like behind cabinets and under the sink. Do not use on food preparation surfaces. Keep children and pets away from it. When ants are no longer visible, sweep up bait and dispose.

Removing Oil Stains from the Driveway

If the stains are fresh and wet, sprinkle a healthy amount ofclay-type cat litter, sand, cornmeal or cornstarch onto the stained area to absorb the oil. If the stains are dry, mix a thick paste of baking soda and water and scrub with a stiff brush, rinse and dry

When Taking Garments to the Dry Cleaner

Be sure to point out the spots and let the cleaners know exactly what substance caused them. This way they can be treated appropriately and hopefully removed

Cleaning Hairbrushes

Fill a quart-size container with baking soda and warm water. Remove all hair first, then soak the hairbrushes and rinse thoroughly. They will be clean!

Silk Flowers Need Cleaning?

Try these: Place the flowers in a paper bag along with a handful of salt and then shake until the dust is gone. Or take them outside and use a hair dryer turned on cold and simply blow off the dust.

Getting Rid of Dents in Carpet

After you move furniture, you often notice dents left behind. You can easily get rid of them byputting an ice cube in each indentation and leaving overnight. Then blot up any liquid and fluff up the fibers.

Reserve several pieces of the ingredient you use in the pie to top it off attractively, such as apples, strawberries, blueberries or peaches, etc. This will add a nice finishing touch.

FLIP

research vessel (Floating Instrument Platform) is the only ship in the world having the ability to flip from a horizontal position to a vertical position while at sea.

The FLIP ship is designed to study wave height, acoustic signals, water temperature and density, and for the collection of meteorological data.

FLIP is 108 meters long and weighs 700 long tons. According to

Alan Bellows

, "when in horizontal traveling mode, the long, hollow ballast area trails behind. When it reaches the desired location, the "tail" is flooded until the nose sticks straight up into the air, taking about twenty-eight minutes to reach vertical position".

Even in stormy conditions, it is as stable as a fencepost, because most of its length lies in the untroubled waters beneath the waves.

During the flip, the crew stand on the outside decks. Scientists and crewmembers literally walk up the walls to stay upright. Suddenly, the aft side of the barge becomes its floor. That makes for some ingenious engineering feats in equipping its bridge, galley, crew quarters and scientific laboratory. Even its head, or bathroom, had to be constructed to operate in a vertical and horizontal position.

As you can see in the video, some of FLIP's furnishings are also built so they can rotate to a new position.

In 1995, FLIP received a $2,000,000 modernization. The structural build is currently excellent and instrumentation will allow FLIP to be an oceanographic powerhouse in the future.
