[Gujarati Club] બાળકનું ઘરમાં સ્થાન કયું? – ગિજુભાઈ બધેકા

Dear Friends,

Aksharnaad presents today a thought provoking article about children...

An Indian court has remanded in custody a Hindu holy man accused of a string of bomb attacks previously thought to be the work of Muslim militants.

Swami Aseemanand allegedly admitted to placing bombs on a train to Pakistan, at a Sufi shrine and at a mosque.

He has also allegedly confessed to carrying out two assaults on the southern Indian town of Malegaon, which has a large Muslim population.

He has been remanded in custody for the four attacks until 27 January.

Headway

Police say that Mr Aseemanand gave them details of his role in the mosque attack in the city of Hyderabad in 2007 in addition to attacks on a graveyard in Malegaon and a Sufi shrine in Ajmer.

THE FOUR ATTACKS

  • February 2007: on the Samjhauta Express train
  • May 2007: on the Mecca Masjid mosque in Hyderabad
  • October 2007: Sufi shrine in the city of Ajmer
  • September 2008: Three bombs in the city of Malegaon

Several Muslim men were arrested for those attacks - and some reports said that they had been tortured. Most are still in custody.

Mr Aseemanand was arrested in November after being in hiding for two years, police said.

According to India's Tehelka magazine, which has obtained a copy of his 42-page confession, he told his interrogators that the attacks on Muslim places were in response to attacks by Islamist militants in India.

It quotes him as saying that many of those involved in the bombings were members of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) - the right-wing parent organisation of India's main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party.

The bomb attack on the Samjhauta (Friendship) Express train travelling from India to Pakistan in February 2007 killed 68 people. Many of the passengers who died in the incident were Pakistanis returning home.

The 2008 blast in the town of Malegaon killed seven people and left more than 100 injured. A female Hindu priest, Sadhwi Pragya Singh Thakur, and a serving Indian army officer were among 11 people who were arrested in connection with the attack.

In May 2007, at least 14 people were killed in an explosion during Friday prayers at the Mecca mosque in Hyderabad. It is one of India's biggest mosques, and there was rioting afterwards.

And in October 2007, a bomb attack on a famous Sufi Muslim shrine in the city of Ajmer - in the state of Rajasthan - killed two people.

Anger over leaks

Most of these blasts were initially blamed on local militant groups and several Muslim men were arrested for alleged involvement.

But correspondents say the police were unable to make much headway in their investigations.

Opposition politicians were angered recently after leaked diplomatic cables suggested Rahul Gandhi, widely tipped as a future Indian PM, believed Hindu radicals might pose a greater threat than Islamist militants.

According to Wikileaks, Mr Gandhi told a US envoy last year there was some support among Indian Muslims for militants such as Lashkar-e-Taiba.

But he told ambassador Timothy Roemer the greater threat could come from the growth of radical Hindu groups.

[F4AG] IAMC PAYS TRIBUTE TO MAHATMA GANDHI

Indian American Muslim Council
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
IAMC Pays Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sunday, January 30, 2011
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The Indian American Muslim Council (IAMC -   http://www.iamc.com), an advocacy group dedicated to safeguarding India's pluralist and tolerant ethos, has paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of his death anniversary today, by calling on all Indians to come together as one nation, to rise above communal politics, and to discredit the hate-filled ideologies that claimed the Mahatma's life.

Mahatma Gandhi's leadership during India's freedom struggle, his tenacity in living by the principles of non-violence even under the most adverse conditions and his steadfast espousal of the rights of the oppressed among the lower castes and minorities have made him an enduring source of inspiration for  millions across the world. His legacy has guided freedom movements in several parts of the world, and his name rightly symbolizes the indomitable human spirit. His assassination, soon after India's independence, marks a defining moment in India's continuing struggle against communalist and sectarian ideologies.

"On January 30, 1948, the nation lost its greatest leader to an assassin's bullets. Tragically, the hate and bigotry that manifested itself on that momentous day continue to be perpetuated in the form of religious extremism and radical communal politics," said Shaheen Khateeb, president of IAMC. "Now, more than ever, we need to join hands and commit ourselves to ensuring that it is Gandhiji's legacy of compassion, love and justice for all that shapes this nation's future, and not the hate-filled legacy of Nathuram Godse," added Mr. Khateeb.

IAMC has called upon the Government of India to mark the anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi's assassination by taking concrete steps to strengthen civil society and the institutions established to safeguard human rights, religious freedom, and equal opportunities for all.

Indian American Muslim Council (formerly Indian Muslim Council-USA)  is the largest advocacy organization of Indian Muslims in the United States with 10 chapters across the nation.

[F4AG] FRIENDSHIP

Friendship is like a flower,
Glowing in its glory,
Each and every seed,
Telling its own story.

As each flower blooms,
And then continues to grow,
More of its strength and knowledge,
Continues to show.

And like a garden,
It blooms much more fair,
When carefully tended,
By those who care.

Once in a while,
You come across a friend,
Who is as beautiful as a flower,
With a good heart to lend.

So I picked this flower,
And pulled it apart,
And soon all its pieces,
Grew into my heart.

But when I realized,
Is that this flower that grew,
Was not leaves and petals,
But pieces of you.

Your love and kindness,
Your strength and power,
Have helped me grow,
Into my own little flower.

And now with our friendship,
Il never let go,
And we can help others,
To flower and grow.

[F4AG] PLEASE HELP

Elephant; International Fund for Animal Welfare

Photo: Rhino
Raja was only one month old when rescued. Will you help move him to a safe new home?
Yes, I want to help!

Dear Jaffer,

We are racing to move five elephants and two rhinos before the rainy season floods their road to freedom.

The elephants and rhinos are at the IFAW Wildlife Rescue Centre near Kaziranga National Park in India, where we raise young, abandoned animals until they're ready to be released to the wild.

Soni was only four months old - just a baby - when she first arrived at the rescue centre. Her herd had entered a village's crop fields and were chased away, but she was left behind in the chaos.

Angry villagers cornered poor Soni, then severely cut her trunk. The Forest Department then rescued her, but her injury was so severe that she was soon close to death.

The Forest Department called IFAW and our partners, Wildlife Trust of India. The IFAW-WTI veterinarians brought her to the rescue centre to try to save her life. They succeeded, and two weeks later Soni was well enough to be introduced to two other baby elephants that had also been rescued.

Soni and her friends are now ready to be released to Manas National Park, a protected reserve and UN World Heritage Site.

But we must move quickly - before the monsoon rains arrive and turn the roads to Manas into mud.

Please help me move Soni and her friends now.

If ever a group of animals deserve new homes, it's these elephants and rhinos.

All were just babies like Soni - they were lost, orphaned, or injured when they were rescued and brought to our Wildlife Rescue Centre.

Fifteen-day-old Tikla was trapped in a drainage pit, shaking with fear and clinging to life...Sikom was three months old when swept away by a flash flood and found wandering in a daze...Raja the rhino was only one month old when found alone in the woods.

I can't imagine how frightened and lonely these baby animals must have felt.

Now Soni and her friends are ready to take her next steps to freedom.

It's up to you and me to make sure she can take those steps.

Our wildlife rescue centre does an incredible job of raising young animals. They're carefully treated for their injuries, and bottle-fed special nourishing formula. And when the expert staff is certain the animals are ready, they begin preparing to move them to the wild.

For these five elephants and two rhinos, that time is now.

But we must hurry.

Please make your emergency donation today to help us move Soni and her adopted brothers and sisters before the rainy season makes the roads impassable.

Your gift will be the gift of freedom to these young animals...it will help pay for the veterinary care, food and water, and special enclosures needed to move the animals...it will help care for the remaining wildlife and new arrivals to the IFAW Wildlife Rescue Centre...and will provide shelter, care, and safe homes for so many animals in IFAW projects around the world.

I hope I can count on you to come through for these elephants and rhinos.

They are so deserving, and your gift will help so much.

Gratefully,

Fred O'Regan Signature

p.s. The rains may begin early, so we need to be prepared to move quickly. With your help, we'll be ready to go at a moment's notice. Please give today to help Soni and her friends and needy animals that desperately need us.

IFAW is a company limited by guarantee registered in England and Wales (company number 2701278) and a registered charity (number 1024806).

Thank you so much for donating to IFAW. Your gift represents a vital contribution to IFAW's entire mission of saving the world's animals from cruelty and exploitation and will be used where most needed to help ease their suffering.

Worried about Donating online?
I used to be too ... so I made sure our online system is safe, secure, and state-of-the-art. It also eliminates cheque-processing costs, so more money goes directly to saving animals. But if you prefer to donate by phone or mail, simply click here for address information.

NOTE: To make sure you continue to receive further emails from IFAW, please add fred@ifaw1.org to your email address book. If you use a spam filter program, please assign this address a status of safe or trusted. If you have an AOL, Hotmail, MSN or Yahoo email address, this is particularly important as we receive many bounce backs from these email addresses.
