"Rejecting the state government's appeal against the 2006 judgment of the high court, the court said instead of a complete ban on dance girls in pubs and bars, the state could consider the alternative suggestions made by a state-appointed committee like banning dance girls from exposing body or wearing tight and provocative clothes during performances.
The committee had also suggested keeping customers in the pubs and bars away from the dance girls by erecting railings around the dance floor which should be a minimum of 10x12 feet accommodating a maximum eight dancers, no showering of money by customers on dancers and a register maintaining the name of each dance girl engaged at the bar. "
The level of moral policing in India is absolutely ridiculous. I wonder if it violates constitution. In general in India, women dont cut men's hair, do not work as waitresses in restaurants in general, do not work as taxi drivers and wear sarees and salwar Kameez generally in dance bars and now they want to control how they wear those clothes also and the method of tipping is also what they want to control - absolutely nuts.
More than moral policing, such things as restricting women is reflective of the typical male-centric view. Have observed that with the Supreme Court Justices opinions as well. What is with "registering name of dance girl"? How about registering and publishing the names of the men that enter such places so that their family know their whereabouts? Next to their name, they could even add an asterisk for each of their (dirty) deeds.
All this male centric society is the cause of this type of moral policing.
Read some of Aarushi trial and the statements by the doctor who conducted post mortem, the so called "improvements" in his report is such nonsense, it is amazing to see that coming from a doctor - am glad that Dr. Urmila Sharma, an 80 year old gynecologist attempted to set the record straight.
Mujara places in India,...
