Hundreds of bikies mourn slain Bandido
Hundreds of Bandidos bikies from across Australia have buried gunned-down gang member Ross 'Rosco' Brand at a private funeral in Geelong.
A senior "fully patched" member, Brand, 51, died after being shot outside the gang's Geelong clubhouse last week.
On Friday, his coffin was carried in a motorbike sidecar from the clubhouse to a funeral home in nearby Grovedale, followed by hundreds of Bandidos members, dressed in black and orange T-shirts and leathers, down the Surf Coast Highway.
Workers near the gang's clubhouse in Leather Street earlier stopped to watch gang members and Mr Brand's family prepare for the procession.
Some bikies drank beer, others embraced, while some railed defensively against the interest they had attracted.
A small number of women attended, some dressed in heels and fuchsia-coloured dresses, and hats.
A heavy police presence lined the procession route to keep members of the public and media at a distance.
Yet-to-be fully patched Bandidos kept unwelcome visitors at bay, limiting the service only to the initiated.
When media interest grew, the slain man's colleagues hurled abuse at reporters and pushed a television crew away from the funeral home entrance.
The funeral chapel proved too small to accommodate many Bandidos, forcing crowds to mill around the venue.
Police have made no arrests in the killing, which occurred only one week after a high profile mass Bandidos ride from Geelong to Melbourne.
Brand, who had a long criminal history involving weapons and violence offences, is believed to be the victim of a targeted shooting.
His Torquay home was shot at earlier this year.
Police commended the absence of traffic incidents and minimal disruption to other drivers during the funeral procession.
"Overall, the crowd behaved as expected," a police spokeswoman said.
Mourners paid their last respects at a burial in the Geelong Eastern Cemetery which was also closed to scrutiny from the curious.
