Auburn residents are getting tired of rising crime levels in the suburb and want repeat offenders removed from the area, says the mayor.

The comments come after about 100 police - including the riot squad - had to break up a crowd that threw bottles at police as officers raided four homes in Auburn last night.

‘‘I was at a meeting last night and a number of residents were saying ... ‘send them back overseas’,’’  Mayor Irene Simms told 2GB. ‘‘I pointed out a lot of them are probably born here.

‘‘But one of the oaths you take when you do your affirmation and citizenship is to obey and respect the laws of this country.

‘‘If you don’t do that you are breaking a contract with Australia.’’

In last night's incident an officer was hit in the face in the raids, during which police allege they found two stun guns, cannabis, a large sum of cash, a handgun and ammunition.

The injured officer was taken to hospital to have the wound stitched and was released.

The raids were carried out about 6pm yesterday by the Middle Eastern Organised Crime Squad in response to recent shootings in Sydney's south-west, police said.

Three homes in Cumberland Road and one home in Normanby Street were targeted.

As a crowd of 150 gathered during the raids, police called in the riot squad, police helicopter and the dog squad.

"The crowd gathered and [the confrontation] escalated in a matter of five to 10 minutes," Detective Inspector Mick Reynolds said.

No one from the crowd was arrested or injured, police said.

It is believed the crowd gathered in response to one of the Cumberland Road raids, in which a 25-year-old man, a 17-year-old male and a woman in her 20s were arrested.

Residents told the Herald they believed the woman had been injured by police.

The police officer - a senior constable - was also injured during this raid, suffering a cut to the forehead and needing four stitches.

The 25-year-old man was charged with wounding a police officer, and assaulting and resisting police.

He was refused bail and will face Burwood Local Court today.

The 17-year-old was charged with assaulting police, resisting arrest and hindering police.

He was granted conditional bail and will face Parramatta Children's Court on September 29.

The woman was questioned and released, but charges were expected to be laid in coming days, police said.

No one in the crowd was arrested or injured.
