Malaria - Pl.read this if you live in Mumbai As some of you know I have been making more than my fair share of Doctor visits. So i have been getting a lot of updates from the various docs at regular intervals. Yesterday, What I had been suspecting all along was confirmed by my Doctor. Apparently , in his opinion , Bombay is in the grips of not an epidemic , but a pandemic of Malaria of massive proportions,so bad that it is now difficult to get a bed at a hospital nowadays. when I was at Breach Candy, half my floor had Malaria patients. Todays TOI also reports on the same. The frightening thing is , that even the less dangerous form - Vivax , has now mutated and leads to paralysis( sometimes). Falciparum , is in any case, called the malignant form of Malaria. My Dad has suggested that everyone who is concerned , should take this medicine. It has no bad side effects . It is called Mefloquine - 250 mg, and it has to be taken just once a week , for 6 weeks For children under 10 years , Tab Lariago , also once a week for 6 weeks. Check with your GP, but pls start.It will prevent you from getting malaria There is a cream called Permite - pls take the cream and not the liquid- all clothes after the final wash , can be simply dipped in a bucket containing 2-3 drops of this cream , and mosquitos will apparently be less inclined to come near you- Yes, if you are wearing clothes that have been dipped in this cream !!! Pls inform whomever else you wish - I am giving this to all my servants as well. The ultimate irony is I cant take it myself , because am allergic to it :( But I just thought , if all you guys take it, and tell others about it, we can do what the BMC should have been doing .........
