The scariest pool in the world, 55 stories above ground

The "Sands Skypark" in Singapore is a pool, greenway and casino with an usual location. The whole thing sits atop not one, but three skyscrapers that make up the Marina Bay Sands hotel. The infinity pool itself is
nearly 500 feet in length and features no discernible edge. So what would happen if you swam over?

Don't worry, you wouldn't just plummet to the streets below. Instead, you'd fall where the rest of the water does: a basin that also acts as a filter for the water and sends it back up to the pool. Sounds pleasant, right? We haven't see a picture of it, but we imagine you just get right out of that basin yourself, rather than get forced around in tubes Willy Wonka-style.

The skypark, designed by architect Moshe Sadie, is itself is nearly 1,250 feet long, and is a new addition to the $6 billion dollar hotel. An interesting note: the hotel-topping casino is free for visitors, but residents of Singapore have to pay a $70 entrance fee as the government there is trying to discourage gambling.

moshe safdie: marina bay sands skypark opens

Earlier this year, designboom visited the marina bay sands while it was still under construction (If you click on the area right before this, you'll see the construction information.).  Then in April, the high-rise hotel complex opened its doors to the public. now the marina bay sands

in singapore is welcoming visitors for the first time to the 'sands skypark', a 380 meter-long roof top
deck which spans across the length of the complex's three skyscraper structures. designed by
architect moshe safdie, the platform rests 200 meters in the air and is equivalent in size to the
eiffel tower laid horizontally on its side or three football fields connected end to end. the construction
cost around 80 million dollars and required roughly 7,000 tons of steel to complete. to walk the
whole length of the skypark takes around twenty minutes, provided that visitors do not stop to enjoy
the various attractions along the way: a 150 meter-long infinity swimming pool, bar, restaurant and spa,
botanical garden with 250 species of trees and 650 plants, and an observation deck that provides a
panoramic view of the waterfront. the observation deck alone is capable of holding 900 people at once,
with the whole skypark having the capacity to host up to 3,900.

accommodation at the hotel does not come cheap, but visitors who wish to just visit and enjoy
the observation deck can gain access for $20 USD.
