The year 1945 saw the release of two films which had songs by Mukesh. The films are 'Moorti' and 'Pehli Nazar'. The latter, of course, is the film that set Mukesh on the path of stardom as a singer. Let us first talk about 'Moorti'.
The film 'Moorti' is a Ranjit Movietone production. It is not clear whether this film belongs to the time when Mukesh was contracted with Ranjit during 1942-43. But it was a release in 1945.
The film is directed by Chaturbhuj Doshi. The main star cast includes Khursheed, Motilal, Padma Bannerjee, Yashwant Dave, Kamal Zamindaar, Kaneez, Tara Bai, PD Laal, Chakram etc. The music for the film is composed by Bulo C Rani and the lyrics are penned by Pt. Indra. In all there are 10 songs in this film. Seven of these songs are shared between Khursheed and Hameeda Bano. Of the remaining 3 songs, two are solo by Mukesh, and the tenth song is the famous "Badariya Baras Gayi Us Paar" ), sung by Mukesh, Khursheed and Hameeda Bano. One of the Mukesh solo songs is already posted here on this blog "Haseenon Se Haseenon Ko Mohabbat Ho Hi Jaati Hai".
Here is the rare second Mukesh solo from this film. Accounting for all the songs sung thus far by Mukesh, we have 9 songs from 4 films, prior to the change in fortune for Mukesh with his fifth film – 'Pehli Nazar'. This is a wonderful ghazal written by Pt Indra. The voice of Mukesh had a reasonable opportunity to sound once again like Saigal Saab, but remarkably, with this ghazal Mukesh appears to be making an effort to sound natural and himself.
