Amazing Lego sculptures from around the world...

 

It's official - Britain's favourite toy is Lego, at least according to the results of a poll recently conducted by retail chain Argos. The iconic building blocks have been around since 1934, when they were first fabricated out of wood by a Danish carpenter. Today, we've moved on to digital Lego blocks in videogames like Lego Star Wars and Lego Batman.

Throughout its long and illustrious history, Lego have been enjoyed by people of all ages the world over. The toy's simple but versatile design has even permitted them to be employed in the construction of highly sophisticated objects… obviously by people with evidently loads of free time on their hands. To celebrate the contribution of Lego products to society, we offer up the following photos of amazing Lego creations. Perhaps they will inspire you to build something of comparable grandeur… like a Lego computer on which to view MSN…

 

 

The Lego Sphinx may not be as large as its real-life counterpart, but it is no less impressive. Plus, if the nose falls off on this one, it isn't a big deal to reattach. Beat that, Ancient Egyptians.

The Life Guards tower above a replica of the Old Admiralty unveiled as part of the Miniland London exhibit at Legoland Windsor. It's difficult to tell who has better posture, the real guards or the Lego ones.

 

 

 

This enormous Lego reproduction of the Queen Mary II looks ready to set sail. One question: Is there any Lego champagne to mark the occasion?

 

 

 

The benefits of this Lego Formula 1 Racecar are obvious: The pit crew can get in and fix it up with little effort. The Lego seatbelt might be a bit uncomfortable, though.

Twenty five busts are featured in the exhibit in Guenzburg, Germany, including Gerd Mueller, Pele, and Franz Beckenbauer. What happened to Lego Beckham? Probably off modelling underwear.

 

 

 

At nearly 100 feet high, this tower of Lego bricks at Legoland Windsor is the world's tallest. It's also chock full of 500,000 individual Lego pieces. Feeling inadequate, anyone? Remember, it's not the size of your Lego tower that matters, but how you play with it.

 

 

 

Little Miss Muffet seems comfortable enough around this giant Lego arachnid, but it's only because she knows how easy it is to pull his legs off.

This giant, Lego map of the United States is conveniently located in Washington, D.C. so that Bush can stop by and play President when he feels like it.

We've all felt the sting of the credit crunch, but perhaps not nearly as severely as Donald Trump. Just look at how hard the mogul has fallen, forced to construct his latest luxury hotel entirely out of Lego! At least this promises to be more affordable...

 

 

 

Fee-fie-fo-fum! I smell a poor nursery rhyme reference, the second in this photo gallery. Still, just what does this guy think he's doing in the middle of the Lego O2 (or, LegO2, if you prefer)?
